Stanford Stadium is an outdoor athletic stadium on the Stanford University campus, the home of Stanford Cardinal college football team. It originally opened in 1921 as a football and track stadium, an earthen horseshoe with wooden bleacher seating and flooring upon a steel frame.

Built partly in competition with the University of California, Berkeley to see who could build a football stadium first, Stanford Stadium was built in four months and opened its gates on November 19, 1921. Seating capacity was originally 60,000, with a 66-row, U-Shaped structure second only to the Yale Bowl in size at the time. Renovations in the mid 1920s increased the stadium to its maximum capacity of 85,500, with 80 rows of seating.

This photograph was taken around that time, and published in a 1927 book.

Taken directly out of the 1927 printing of a book of school alma mater and football songs, this is half of a beautiful, cream-colored page lightly tinged with the golden burnish that comes only with the passing years. Over 90 years old, yet looks fabulous.Cut page is approx. 5\" x7 1/2\". What a great piece of memorabilia for a Stanford alum orCardinal fan!Would look fabulous paired with one of my vintage school song sheets!
