French M1866 German Conversion Bayonet measuring 27.5" overall with a blade length of 22.5". Excellent condition overall, blade shows some age patina spots. Nice working press-stud mechanism. Two cartouches on one side of the ricasso and quillon, opposite side sharply marked with Alex Coppel Scale Logo. No markings on spine. A very nice piece!After the Franco-Prussian War, many of these bayonets were claimed as War Reparations by the Germans. Many of these were converted during WWI to fit other rifles like the Old Model Prussian Carbine, Gras Rifles, this one has a inside socket diameter of .730".A nice bayonet by one of the best and rarest German Makers.
