Located about 2 city blocks from the actual launching pads, this unit launches the Nike on its way upon receiving orders from the Battery Commander\'s fire control headquarters located at the radar and computer site--some 1000 to 6000 feet away. In case of communication failure with headquarters, this unit takes over firing control operations. Having direct communication with headquarters, 2nd Lieutenant Paul R. Dittmer (standing), Scottsdale, Arizona, is one of the battery launching control officers.
