Photograph Notes: Currently moored at Lerwick\'s Victoria Pier is this extraordinary looking vessel an accommodation barge for workers engaged in upgrading the Sullom Voe oil and gas terminal. A bus transports the workers to site at 0700 each morning returning them in the evening. This is one of several such vessels moored at Lerwick and Scalloway (the stern of another can just be seen here) although the colour scheme of the Sans Vitesse undoubtedly makes it the most distinctive. The stripes are in fact intended to make it less obtrusive on the same principle that zebra are well camouflaged against their background; how effective this is is a matter of opinion but a small town harbour is hardly the plains of the Serengeti. Be that as it may local views are divided: some see these barges as an appalling eyesore but others take the more pragmatic approach that the oil industry is more important to Shetland\'s economy than tourism and in any case the well paid workers spend freely in the town.
