Philadelphia Phillies 1970’sVintage Jacket:

This jacket was sourced from a majorsale house who offered the jacket as a P.J. Carey, circa 1980 Central Oregon Phillies Game-Worn Minor League Jacket. All original and unaltered, the jacket shows phenomenalwear with minimal cracking and scuff marks about the leather sleeves.

I trust thesale house but please consider the following;

Although the jacketwas advertised as a circa 1980 Central Oregon Phillies minor league jacket, theWilson Dry Clean Only tag tells us the jacket is much earlier than that and actually datesthe jacket manufacture from 1960’s until 1973.We can narrow the timeline from 1970-74 because the Phillies changed uniform designs in 1970 and the chenille “P”was used up and until 1974. Another point to be made is, the CentralOregon Phillies were not created until 1979. The final point is, P.J. Careyplayed four seasons in the Phillies minor league system and did not manage the OregonPhillies until 1980.

In the 1970’s, the Phillies were notorious for recycling theirequipment to their minor league affiliates and I believe this jacket is anexample of the organization’s thriftiness.

The jacket is anextremely rare red wool zippered garment with twofront pockets and cream-colored leather sleeves. On the left breast, a chenille cursive“P”logo is embroidered to a maroon twill plate in cream-colored pile.Maroon-and-white striped stretch ribbed cotton lines the collar, waistline andsleeve endings, while red leather panels reside at the front pocket openings.Within the collar, a black leather hanger is accompanied by a “Wilson”size “44 Dry Clean Only” label with “CAREY” written in blue ink.

Onefinal point, a jacket like this was NOT available on the retail market so itis my opinion this jacket is an authentic Philadelphia Phillies jacket that wasrecycled by the team – but that’s for the reader to decide.
