You may have seen one of his spectacular belt buckles. But there are quite few Yei Kachina Bolo Ties made by him on a commissioned order from a 1970s Phoenix businessman.The kachina mesures appx. 2 3/4 inches tall and 1 1/4 inches at its widest point. The lanyard is original to this commission by Philip Long and is made in fine leather that is in remarkably good condition.
We love this piece and its history. Our age is why we have been selling this family collection for some time. This is the final piece of his personally commissioned wearable Western art forms.It was created by Philip Long using his hand crafting of sterling silver and Bisbee Turquoise. It is signed by Philip Long. He used his hallmark P with stem attached to and above L and with sunray, as shown in photos. As a youngster, his parents taught him all their collective knowledge in collecting and selecting only the finest turquoise; their experience and artistry in silver smithing; collecting and creating their history for generations. His father, Jimmie Long, is a well known and productive silversmith in their family and cultural traditions. He and Philip\'s mother, Helen Long, are renowned figures in the history of entirely designed and totally hand- crafted Navajo Yei Kachina pieces and other fine art in sterling, turquoise, fine leather and often coral settings.Please SEE the Peabody Museum NATIVE AMERICAN ART for Helen Long\'s kachina pieces.
