This is a new replica of an Akonting (#005)the original Banjo from West Africa. This was made from plans drawings and expert advice in the field.The banjo features a 45\" Canarywood neck finished in Danish oil.The gourd is a kettle style measuring 9 1/2\" dia x 6\" deep with a 1 1/2\" sound port.The tuners are friction Ebony violins and the strings are 60lb monofilimentThe gourd has dye and acrylic graphics with a clear acrylic finishThe head is goatskin and the bridge is curly cherry.The akonting is usually set up to have the long 1st string as the melody string and the middle and top strings are drones.Tuning are optional.
