2020 Topps Tier One Baseball isn’t making any major changes. Looking
at the big picture, that means a checklist consisting entirely of
autographs and memorabilia cards. Designs remain elegant with hints of
foil throughout and a major focus towards on-card ink. Also returning
are some of the cornerstone rarities like bat knobs and barrels.
Hobby box break down to include a pair of autographs and one relic.
2020 Topps Tier One Baseball Autographs
For a product where the majority of the cards have signatures, it
shouldn’t be surprising to learn that there are several different themes
Prime Performers return with a mix of current and retired players.
Break Out Autographs bring in the rookies and other youngsters. Tier One
Talent Autographs spotlight a particular trait of the signer like power
or speed. Base versions for all three of these are numbered to 299 or
less with additional Bronze Ink (/25), Silver Ink (/10) and Gold Ink
Tier One Autographs (/199) are once again case hits. The promise here
is that, unlike some of the other parts of the checklist, only bigger,
established names are included. These also have ink color-based
parallels in Bronze (/25), Silver (/10) and Gold (1/1).
Collectors can find Autographed Tier One Relics (/99), which are
essentially traditional signature memorabilia cards from current and
retired players. Dual Patch (/25) and Triple Patch (1/1) versions can
also be found.
Dual Autograph Tier One Relic Book Cards (/10) pair up players.
The lone new addition to the 2020 Topps Tier One Baseball lineup is
Next Level Autographs (/50). This is another place with top players
along with Bronze (/25), Silver (/10) and Gold (1/1) parallels.
Acetate stock is used on both Clear One Autographs (/10 or less) and Clear One Dual Autographs (/10 or less).
One of Tier One’s more unique inclusions, Signature Tools Autograph
Relics return for another year. Instead of the standard jersey or patch
piece, these one-of-ones have a piece of a pen used for a signing.
Cut Signatures and Cut Signature Relics are available but rank among the product’s toughest pulls. All are one-of-ones.
The game-used cards in 2020 Topps Tier One Baseball begin with Tier
One Relics (/399 or less). Dual (/25) and Triple (1/1) versions are
also available for both with at least one of the swatches being a patch.
Past stars are featured in Tier One Legend Relics (/199 or less).
Parallels here also take a multi-swatch approach with Dual (/25) and
Triple (1/1) versions.
Prodigious Patches (/10) are back for another year with their
oversized pieces of gear. Signed and unsigned versions max out at ten
copies each. Select cards also have Platinum (1/1) parallels.
Uniform Button Relics (/5) use parts of uniforms not found regularly on cards. Autograph versions are one-of-ones.
Tier One All-Star Patches use a jumbo piece taken from an All-Star
warm-up jersey. Both the base and autograph versions have one copy each.
You’ll know exactly what part of the bat is used for Tier One Bat
Knobs and Limited Lumber cards. All one-of-ones, these can be found with
signed and unsigned versions.
