Henry 2KD-5 HF Linear Amplifier 1500 WATTS+ OUTPUT-Henry experimental:
$999.99

Here is a rare one! This is a Henry 2KD-5 HF Linear amplifier powered by 2 Eimac 3-500Z finals. This was purchased new by my late father years ago directly from Henry and has been barely used. Several years ago I went to use it on 20 meters and noticed that the high voltage seemed a little on the high side so I called Henry Radio and ordered new electrolytic capacitors and bleeder resistors per their recommendation. I installed them so that the power supply was stable and then re-checked everything. The voltage was still about 15% more than the recommended 3000 volt plate voltage for SSB. I called Henry again and told them what I had done and talked to an older engineer who was familiar with the older amps. He asked me what the serial number was and I said that it didn\'t have one. He then asked me to read him the numbers off of the power supply transformer. There was a pause and he then said that the amplifier that I have was an \"experimental prototype\" that they had built using a 120 Volt only transformer that had such a high secondary that the plate voltage would be higher than specs and that it would supply the 3-500Z\'s with the voltage \"that they really need\". He was very informative and helpful. I then went ahead and tested into a dummy load and with 100 watt drive from my Kenwood 830s produced over 2000 watts! . The rest of the story is that the power supply can handle what the Eimacs need to perform at their peak performance. The amplifier can only be used with 120 volt supply (recommend at least a 20 amp supply) and CANNOT be re-configured to 240V. Coverage is from 80 meters to 10 meters (possibly warc bands, but never tried). Tuning is simple and controls are smooth to operate. Original owner\'s manual included. Cabinet is all original and paint is in excellent condition. The Henry is a very nice amplifier and everything operates as it should. Typical Henry blower motor is rather loud compared to more modern amplifiers. I am selling only because we are downsizing. AMPLIFIER IS SOLD AS-IS AS I CANNOT CONTROL WHAT HAPPENS TO IT AFTER IT LEAVES MY SHACK. IMPROPER TUNING OR LACK OF EXPERIENCE USING A TUBE AMPLIFIER CAN DAMAGE ALMOST ANYTHING IN THE AMPLIFIER. Amplifier will be shipped very carefully and double boxed to arrive in present condition. Please feel free to ask any questions or if you would like more pictures. Thanks for looking!
