1952(?)Harry Pedler& Sons AMERICAN TRIUMPH cornet – sn 79365 – rememberthe Korean War and the Army-McCarthy hearings? If you do, you’re older than Iam. This is a stencil instrument, made by one of the majors in the US. AlthoughI have this listed as an instrument made in 1952, I have no idea where I gotthat date. So far as I know there’s no serial number list for Pedler. If thedate is real, then this Elkhart, Indiana

Horn predatesthe 1958 Selmer buyout, but I don’t know.

The cornet has not come down through thedecades without a scratch. The finish is wearing badly in places and there’ssome flattening at the bell rim (see pics). The tube is crimped down from thebell near the valves, and the bell is dented (see pics). Fortunately for allconcerned the cosmetics do not effect the sound, which is superior.

The valves are fast and free, and allslides pull except the main tuning slide which is frozen in place.

The mouthpiece is a Getzen 10.5 for atrumpet, which blows the horn but seems to large for the receiver, while a cornetmouthpiece seems too small to work at all. Very likely the horn wants one ofthose oddball mouthpieces that a few old instruments use.

The case is solid and may be original. It showswear from it’s half century of use and one of the catch springs is broken, butit still closes and latches securely.

Video – don’t expect too much, I’m not Miles Davis. It’s a demo toshow that the horn works and how it sounds, not my audition piece for is for what is pictured in the photographs. There are noaccessories other than what is shown.

Shipping is the least expensive way I can find with no extras, andnone of it goes in my pocket. The USPS makes the money. The calculatordetermines the price from weight and distance, and what you pay goes to the POto ship – cost of shipping is printed on your label.

Please note that I’ll be out of town and unableto ship until Monday, Nov. 2 – thanks.

PA buyer will pay 6% state sales tax

response – I’m told it’s important. I try to provide all the info I can in my ads with lots of honest description and detailed pics, and I’m always happy to answer questions if you have them. I pack things to ship the way I’d like to have things packed if somebody was sending them to me, and ship out as soon as payment is received. If you could give me a 5-star rating, that would put a smile on my face. Thanks.
