ErnstWaliss was an Austrian ceramist who created ornate porcelain and clay vesselsfor the European elite. Also known for his small sculptures, the artist oftendepicted Baroque women dressed in luxurious clothes. For example, in his work\"Damenbuste\" (1837-1900), the artist depicted a woman dressed in anextravagant headdress and a silk dress. Waliss was born on March 1, 1837 inOschatz in the Kingdom of Saxony. At the age of 30, he began his pottery careeras a traveling salesman at a porcelain factory. Later, he left to found his ownceramics company, and soon began exporting porcelain products to Europe. Tomeet the high demand for his ceramics and sculptures, the artist opened his ownWahliss department store in the center of Vienna. Towards the end of hiscareer, he left his design job and moved to the rural town of Felden, where heopened a luxury hotel. Waliss died on July 18, 1900 in Vienna, Austria. Hisworks can be found in the collections of the Museum of Applied Arts and Sciencein Sydney, the Carnegie Art Museum in Pittsburgh, the Museum of New Zealand inWellington and others.

The manufactory was founded in 1894 in Trnovany near Teplice E.Stellmacherem,from whom it was bought by the Viennese merchant Ernst Wahliss. After his deathin 1897, the manufactory was inherited by his sons - Gerhard and Erich, whorenamed it Alexandra Porcelain Works and owned it until 1924. In 1900, themanufactory employed about 300 people and had trade offices in Vienna, Londonand Berlin. K.Klaus, F.Studigl, K.Gaal and J.E.Margold worked with themanufactory.
E.Wahlis bought up all possible forms of sets and figurines of the liquidatedroyal manufactory in Vienna and made the so-called Old Vienna in themanufactory in Trnovaneh, which he adapted one of his trade marks.
In 1945 the manufactory was nationalized.
