Classic Disneyland Treasures from Saturday\'s Toys presents...  a seldom seen reply envelope from the mid-1950\'s... from The William J. Burns International Detective Agency, Inc.

Burns Detective originally provided the Disneyland security services from opening day in 1955 through much of the next two years.  As the agency maintained a presence within the park that was not always considered as \"friendly\" to Disneyland\'s guests (nor accommodating to stated Disneyland management needs), they were replaced and from that point forward Disneyland hired and managed their own security personnel.

Period artifacts from Burns are quite rare today.  While there is no indication that this envelope was used in connection with Burns\' specific contract at Disneyland, Inc., it is clearly \"of the period\" and serves as a representative example of the address where the headquarters for Burns Detective Agency was located.

As issued with the unused 1954 Abraham Lincoln 4 cent postage stamp, based on the famed Lincoln portrait by Douglas Volk (1856 - 1935).  In the early spring of 1860, his father, Leonard Volk (1828 - 1895), created a life-mask of Lincoln\'s face and of his hands during his visit to Chicago, with the younger Volk entertaining the newly elected Congressman Lincoln even as his father went about capturing these now priceless artifacts.  A rare copy of Leonard Volk\'s life mask of Lincoln was featured in \"Disneyland Goes to the World\'s Fair\" (1964) as Walt Disney introduced WED Imagineer Blaine Gibson.  Using the copy (from an unstated source) of Volk\'s life-mask as a model, Gibson then crafted the sculpture that was used to create the first masks used for the Lincoln audio-animatronic figure in \"Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln\" at the 1964 New York World\'s Fair (and as later installed at Disneyland in 1965).

Envelope measures 3.5\" X 6.5\"; with rubber stamp used to provide the return address for mailing to Burns.  Reverse side includes the original flap with the same pre-printed return address noted there as well.  Both address examples are pre-zip code (noted as \"Los Angeles 5\"; consistent with use in the mid 1950\'s.

Previously folded at center; as if mailed with to original recipient with other documents (perhaps an invoice or other business matter).

Excellent condition; nicely preserved.
