In 1989 Cecil Fielder wentto Japan to learn how to hit the curveball. He played for the Hanshin Tigersand hit an impressive 38 home runs that season with .302 batting average. InJapan Fielder was nicknamed \"The Wild Bear\" (wild, in Japan, is theimage of power; bear, for his hulking presence).and he became a hero to thelocal baseball fans.
