Babe Ruth & Lou Gehrig Signed Official American League Baseball:
$7500.00

This is an  Authentic 1927 Official American League Ernest Barnard Reach American League Baseball with the red & blue stitching Signed by Babe Ruth & Lou Gehrig. This item is 100% Authentic to include a LETTER OF AUTHENTICITY by JSA (James Spence) AUTHENTICATION.  Many baseballs autographed by Ruth & or Gehrig were non-official MLB baseballs. This is a gorgeous red & blue stitched official American League baseball..STORY ON THIS BALL:It has been in my family since the time my dad had it personally signed for him at a Yankees game when he was 12 years old, July 1927.. BOTH SIGNATURES CAN BE DISPLAYED AT THE SAME TIME.Ruth\'s signature is a solid 8-9/10 while Gehrig is a 6-7/10.The ball is in excellent condition and shows very slight toning from age. The ball is very clean & although it is 90 years old, looks as if it could be from just 10 years ago. The ball shows better than the pictures I have displayed.  No shellacking at all on the ball..A couple of years ago, I had it sent to JSA to get a letter of authenticity. I was told by several collectors it should bring in the $50,000 range at sale, based upon the excellent condition of the ball, the fact that it is an official Barnard American League ball from 1927, that the ball could be displayed showing both signatures, and that the signatures were very nice. .However although this ball came back verifying the signatures as authentic, the letter stated that \"the signatures of Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig have been enhanced in an unknown hand.\" This was quite a surprise to me as the ball has always looked the same from the time I first saw it in 1961, 56 years ago. My father is now deceased & I cannot ask him if he ever went over the signatures, but I just cannot imagine that he would have done so, plus the fact that his hand writing was horrible. .I called James Spence\'s office because I do not believe these signatures were ever enhanced.  They told me they would be willing to re-examine it but that if there is ANY possible chance they believe it was written over, they must put in a disclaimer since no one was there when it was originally signed to verify that it was always that way. It is also possible that based upon the type of pen & ink that was used back then, that the ink spread & widened slightly giving the appearance that it was traced over.   If it was ever traced over, someone would have had to have had a perfectly steady hand, as I\'ve shown it to numerous collectors & friends and to the naked eye it looks perfect..I have sold many high end items over the years on , including a 1985 Ferrari Testarossa, a 1966 Pontiac GTO convertible, a Mickey Mantle rookie card & a diamond ring.  Please feel free to check my response. .The cost of shipping includes full insurance, or the winning buyer may also make arrangements to pick the ball up in person at my house in Colorado Springs, Co.Thanks very much,  Steve
