The hand-painted detail in the gerbera daisies is lovely, and the Burgandy red and green colors are warm and pleasantly charming. The upper ball and lower melonstyle glass shades are in exceptional condition. The original Queen Anne #2 burner has a good electrical conversion and switch. The power cord is acceptable but could use a newer upgrade. We enjoyed the lamp as a nightstand light in our room. This antique lamp has a cute charm that makes us happy!

Scovill Manufacturing Co. opened in 1802 in Waterbury, Conn., under Abel Porter & Co. It made brass buttons and operated under various names and owners. James Mitchell Lamson Scovill and William H. Scovill eventually took over the business, which was incorporated as Scovill Manufacturing Co. in 1850. Scovill made brass lamps, artillery fuses, munitions, medals, daguerreotype plates, cameras, and other items. Scovill holds several patents for improvements to lamp burners, including the \"Queen Anne\" type of burner in common use in the late 1800s. Scovill is still in business, with headquarters in Clarkesville, Ga. Today the company makes fasteners for clothing and light industrial use and holds a patent for the gripper snap, introduced in the 1930s.
