This is a very unique antique piece
Origin and era is NOT confirmed but most comparable to late 1800s Scottish Oak and Horn Dinner Gong
During the Victorian and Edwardian eras, it was often the custom in hotels, on ships and in large, upper-class houses to sound a dinner gong to announce a meal was about to be served.
The brass gong hangs from a pair of cow horns (green cord looks to have been replaced to the original rope) and with brass mounts, raised on an oval oak base with brass plaque (no inscription) and agong strike sitting atop a brass holder. There are numbers on the side of one horn base. The base measures 12” long by 6” depth and the height is 13”
There are some imperfections - significant divot and chips to wood base, scratches to horns and one brass holder is missing screws that can be replaced. The gong most comparable to this one is going for $735 so with imperfections we are offering this beauty at $300
Still wonderfully functional and an incredible piece of history
