Antique Charles Buck 1-3/4" Timber Framing Socket Chisel For Sale

This is very old, heavy-duty, Charles Buck socket chisel manufactured by the Charles Buck Edge Tools Co. in Millbury, Mass. Charles was one of three Buck brothers who were trained in the edge tool trade in England and emigrated to the US about 1850. Their story is an interesting one and one you may want to search on. This particular tool was manufactured sometime between 1872 and 1905ish, when Charles died. The tool reeks of years of use and care, with surfaces covered with tiny nicks and dings from being used on many projects and job sites. Hold it in your hands and you can imagine the jobs it would have been a valuable tool in your toolbox. Note that the handle is likely not original and is ill-fitting, but could be adjusted to fit and the end reconditioned with new leather pads. In any case, it could be a pattern for a new handle.
