Neckwear dating to that time consisted of stiff, two-inch wide silk ties horizontally tied into a flat half-bow. After 1857, the tie became narrower and the shape more horizontal. Measuring closest to a ninth plate photograph (1.8" x 2.3") is enclosed in a 2-piece ornate brass frame and thick glass pane. The wooden enclosure is beautifully embossed with leather on the back and features a swing hinge on the side.The photograph is in excellent condition and is an original from the 1850s.
