Aesthetic Movement 1879 Copeland Spode Plate Transferware Birds Cherry Blossoms For Sale

Exquisite Victorian octagonal polychrome transferware plate made by Copeland Pottery in 1879 featuring an intricate hand colored japanesque scene of a scroll with birds, butterflies, cherry blossoms and bamboo, bordered by scalloped edges. Plate measures 9" diagonal. Made in England. Backstamp reads "Copeland B T 79".

This delicate plate is in surprising condition with no cracks or repairs, and only two very minor chips. The colors are vibrant and there is very little wear or fading on the decorations. See pictures for overall condition and flaws. This is a rare find, especially on the octagonal shape.

This plate is truly delightful and would be the star in any collection, and it deserves to be allowed to shine and tell its 140-year history.
