These are hand plane “Kanna”fully maintained for ready to use. Please check video and photo and feel freeto contact us for more details.

The used Kannas are.

• Cleaned, disinfected and removed the rust, blacking with gun blue liquid.
• Double-edged blade with a chip-breaker. Sharpen the double blades.
• Wood bottom Dai was flattened and set of two/three-point touch.

(A) 重兵衛/Jube, used long wooden Dai with a vintage blade.

• Blade: 71.0mm (2.80 in) Lower wide x 91mm (3.58 in) Hight, used.
• Chip-beaker: 62mm (2.44 in) Wide x 50mm (1.96 in.) Hight, used.
• Wood Bottom Dai: 82mm (3.23 in) Wide x 406 mm (15.98 in) Length x 30 mm (1.18 in) Thickness, used. -
• Bottom of Dai: Three-point touch

(B) 富光/Tomimitsu, Standard used wooden Dai with a vintage blade, used

• Blade: 64.0mm (2.52 in) Lower wide x 112mm (2.52 in) Hight, used.
• Chip-breaker: 56mm (2.20 in) Wide x 49mm (1.93in) Hight, used.
• Wood Bottom Dai: 81mm (3.19 in) Wide x 276 mm (10.87 in) Length x 34 mm (1.34 in) Thickness, used.
• Bottom of Dai was tuned in three-point touch.
• Bottom of Dai: two-point touch

In my video, I performed planing a SPF wood timber using each Kanna. As a result of fine tuning of wood bottom and sharpening the blade edges, wood shaving leaped out from Kanna is very thin like a silk fabric.

In the case of long-Dai, 重兵衛/Jube, because the head of Dai is easily damaged when hammering it to pull out of the blade, you should follow the steps below as shown at the end of video-

1) Turn down the head of Dai

2) Put your one hand on the blade head.

2) Strike the head of Dai against the table several times, catch the blade by your hand.

Photo-10, 17 show the gap of blade-mouth when the video shot. Jube's blade mouth is mounted with wood piece and tuned to be narrow. The smaller gap better to be smooth the wood surface by planing.

When you buy a used Kanna you have to set up it to planning in smoothly by yourself. Not only sharpening the blade-edge, but also reshape the blade, also sharpening the chip-breaker blade (counter-blade) and tune the sole of wood bottom “Dai”. It took a few days to have these tuning. If you have Kanna for the first time you might be confused because of many things to do. (See the below website) Now you have a chance to get ready-to-use. For the price of an unused vintage tool, you can purchase three different sized Kanna. As soon an the Kanna arrives, you can use it, but you should re-sharpen the blade from time to time to maintain its sharpness.

Maintenance I always use the whetstone #1,000 grit for mid and #6,000 grit for final sharpening the blade-edge (See the Amazon-site) . Needless to say, the #10,000 grit or more fine grit is better.
