Photo # 4 shows the Title Page. Photo # 5 shows the Student Senate. Photo # 6 shows Miss Thoroughbred, Connie Carter from Pi Beta Phi Sorority and Photo # 7 shows Mr. Thoroughbred, Dock Davis from Phi Kappa Tau. Photos 8, 9 and 10 show Homecoming Queen, Brenda Garrett Reid and her new husband, Jack Reid, who played end position on the Football Team. Mrs. Reid is still continuing her training in dental hygiene and will soon graduate. the photos say that Jack Reid, said that she was his Queen first. Photo # 11 shows Brenda Garrett Reid as a member of the Dental Hygiene Program. She is located in the bottom row, 2nd from the left. Photo # 12 shows Louisville School of Medicine Building. This building is descended from the Louisville Medical Institute which was chartered by the Kentucky Legislature in 1833. In 1837 the Medical Faculty of Transylvania dissolved and reorganized at the University of Louisville. The University of Louisville was founded with thee departments of medicine and law. The Medical Library then had 3,216 volumes, making it the 2nd largest in the United States. In 1869 the Louisville Medical College was founded and the Medical Department of Kentucky merged with the University in 1907. Later the Louisville Hospital College of Medicine merged with the University forming the present Louisville School of Medicine. Photo # 13 show some of the students from the School of Music. On the left students: Bonnie Waugh, Linda Low, Eddie Cooper, Billy White and Mary Helen Romine are decorating for the Harvest Moon Festival. The upper photo on the right shows Linda Loy and Terry Cravens are in the midst of a heated discussion about the Rules of Voice. The lower picture on the right shows students Carol Weiss, Linda Loy, John Albrecht and Terry Cravens getting together for a Jam Session. Photo # 14 shows the School of Music building at Gardencourt. Founded in 1932 the School of Music is one of ten schools that make up the University of Louisville. Little renovation has been made in the original design of the Mansion, Gardencourt, a donated to to the School of Music by the Norton Family in 1947. Gardencourt is an excellent setting for the School of Music. The spacious mansion has 24 rooms used as recital halls, classrooms, and studios. One fine day in November, 1959 one of the greatest composers of the 20th Century stopped by for lunch at the University of Louisville School of Music. Dmitri Shostakovich, was born in St. Petersburg, Russia in 1907 and began playing the piano at age 9. He was a leading musical figure of the Soviet Union and was in Louisville as part of a goodwill tour with five other Soviet Musical artists at the height of the Cold War. Dmitri Shostakovich composed a total of fifteen symphonies, six concertos, twenty five suites, seventeen string quartet works and several other unclassified chamber and piano works. Shostakovich also composed music for more than thirty films and five ballets. The Louisville Orchestra and guest pianist Eugene List performed his fiery first piano concerto the next night. Photographs and other information from the visit of Dmitri Shostakovich can be found at the Dwight Anderson Memorial Music Library. The Library houses the largest academic music collection in the State of Kentucky and was founded in 1947. The Music Library was named after Dwight Anderson. He was the Dean of the School of Music at the University of Louisville from 1937 to 1956 and died in 1962. Photo # 15 shows the Phi Delta Epsilon Fraternity. Members show in the top photo are: Left to right, Robert Allen Kohn, Mary K. Wong and Dock Davis. Dock Davis was also a member of Phi Kappa Tau Fraternity and was the winner of the Mr. Thoroughbred Contest. The lower photo shows members: Lower row, left to right, Jane Harmon, Eva Griffith, Robert Allen Kohn and Mary K. Wong. The upper row shows Dock Davis and Richard Doctor. Photo # 16 shows the Cheerleaders in Descending Order, Bobbi Stiers, Gwynne McGee, P Morgan, Nancy Hickman, June Heldman and Tiny Smith.
