THE LAST PRECIOUS FEW PIPES

After listing my pipe collection on , it’s time to part with the favorites - my Ashtons by Bill Taylor, my Ferndowns by Les Wood, and a few other high end pieces. Any of these that don’t sell, I will gladly keep.

FERNDOWN / LES WOOD CLASSIC LUMBERMAN * (RARE 1 STAR SIZE) ESTATE PIPE W/ORNATE ORIGINAL (NOT REPAIR) L&JS STERLING SILVER BAND BARK FINISH AND LJS CUMBERLAND STEM

Excellent Condition, just cleaned & sanitized

Les Wood has been around as long or longer than anyone and although he is still making some collaboration pipes, with his retirement, we will unfortunately never see Ferndown production again.

This particular piece is now what I consider to be a "vintage" Les Wood / Ferndown.

After he left Dunhill he made pipes under the name "L. Wood" and "Elwood" before his flagship Ferndown that would be used until his retirement just a few years ago.

This classic Lumberman (saddle bit Canadian) is an absolute gem, I've always felt Les made fantastic Cumberland Stem pipes! 7" long, it feels amazing in hand, a rare one star - about a Group 4 - with a beautifully formed bowl, nice thick walls and a healthy sized chamber. And light 1.6 oz.

The shank is adorned with a brilliant ornate L&JS Sterling Silver band adding class - it is not a repair band! Les made his reputation at Dunhill as the best silversmith in England. Stem is original Cumberland Ashtonite with saddle bit and signature LJS logo.

Finish is a lovely dark finish with brown highlights on the craggy rustication and smooth polished rim. A phenomenal piece from the great Les Wood, this one simply will not disappoint!
