THE LAST PRECIOUS FEW PIPES
After listing my pipe collection on , it’s time to part with the favorites - my Ashtons by Bill Taylor, my Ferndowns by Les Wood, and a few other high end pieces. Any of these that don’t sell, I will gladly keep.
FERNDOWN / LES WOOD CLASSIC RUSTICATED * (Rare One Star) BENT BULLDOG ESTATE WITH BARK FINISH AND LJS CUMBERLAND STEM
Excellent Condition
It's a shame when a carver retires, but Les Wood has been around as long or longer than anyone and although he is still making some collaboration pipes, we will unfortunately never see Ferndown production again. This particular piece is now a "vintage" Les Wood / Ferndown.
After he left Dunhill he made pipes under the name "L. Wood" and "Elwood" before ultimately creating his Ferndown line that would represent the finest pipes in England.
This classic and rare one-star Bulldog is an absolute gem, I've always felt Les made fantastic Saddle Stem pipes! It feels amazing in hand, about a Group 4 with a beautifully formed bowl, nice thick walls and a healthy sized chamber.
The Stem is the original Cumberland Ebonite with fishtail bit and signature LJS logo.
Finish is a lovely dark finish with brown highlights on the craggy rustication and smooth polished rim. A phenomenal piece from the great Les Wood, this one simply will not disappoint!
