THE LAST PRECIOUS FEW PIPES
After listing my pipe collection on , it’s time to part with the favorites - my Ashtons by Bill Taylor, my Ferndowns by Les Wood, and a few other high end pieces. Any of these that don’t sell, I will gladly keep.
FERNDOWN / LES WOOD CLASSIC RUSTICATED ** (2 STAR) APPLE ESTATE PIPE WITH ORIGINAL STERLING SILVER SPIGOT BARK FINISH AND L&JS ASHTONITE STEM
Excellent Condition
It's a shame when a carver retires, but Les Wood has been around as long or longer than anyone and although he is still making some collaboration pipes
I'm to understand, we will unfortunately never see Ferndown production again. This particular piece is now what I consider to be a "vintage" Les Wood / Ferndown.
After he left Dunhill as their premier pipe carver and silversmith, he made pipes under the name "L. Wood" and "Elwood" before his flagship Ferndown that would be used until his retirement just a few years ago.
This classic Apple Soigot is an absolute gem, I've always felt Les made fantastic Silver Spigot pipes! That’s why they are so rare and highly sought after. Over 6" long, it feels amazing in hand, about a Group 6 with a beautifully formed bowl, nice thick walls and a healthy sized chamber.
The shank is adorned with a brilliant and rare L&JS Sterling Silver stigot adding class. Stem is original Ashtonite/ Ebonite with fishtail bit and signature LJS logo.
Finish is a lovely dark finish with brown highlights on the craggy rustication and smooth polished rim. A phenomenal piece from the great Les Wood, this one simply will not disappoint!
