🔥 Antique 19th c. Old Western Native American Indian Pocahontas Oil Painting For Sale

This is a finely painted and expressiveAntique 19th c. Old West Native American Indian Pocahontas Oil Painting on canvas, depicting a young Native American maiden in a forested setting, holding hands with a young Native American chief, as indicted by his ornate feather headdress. The young woman shyly looks away from the viewer's gaze, while the young chief looks directly in the viewer's direction with a benevolent gaze. The format of this painting makes you feel like you are watching them from a cabin window. In the background, tall trees and lush greenery can be seen. Both figures wear detailed and culturally correct outfits and accessories, such as the woman's buckskin dress, finely detailed moccasins, and the young chief's bow that he holds in his left hand. This work does not appear to be signed, but perhaps you recognize the artist or their work? On the verso there is a label which reads: "To Charles R. Rowland," and an old framer's label which reads: "Witherspoon's Frames of Distinction...McKinney, Texas." At the corners of the stretcher bars are old metal brackets that state: "PATENT 1883." These brackets were commonly used from the 1880's - early 1900's, and this painting likely dates to the 1890's. This artwork appears to have been mounted in this particular frame sometime in the 1940's - 1950's. Approximately 23 3/4 x 29 3/4 inches (including frame.) Actual artwork is approximately 20 x 26 1/4 inches. Very good condition for over a century of age, with evidence of one old repair at the lower right edge of the canvas. It was a professional job and is virtually unnoticeable (please see photos.) The vintage gilded frame has some light scuffing and edge wear.
