Pair of vintage Mexican folk-art wall hangings, hand carved from wood and approximately 11 inches tall. Purpose-made as wall decor rather than wearable masks. Both feature dark grounds, incised linear details, pierced facial openings, projecting noses, hand-painted decoration and applied jeweled ornaments. One is a smiling human figure; the other has prominent carved fangs. No maker marks observed. Condition Notes: Strong paint and surface detail overall. Smiling figure has no notable issues observed and retains its hanger. Fanged figure has two replaced outer jeweled ornaments, a small area of wood loss at the upper rear/edge, and no hanger.
