Vintage 1972 Green Giant Advertising Little Sprout. He\'s in decent condition, with obvious wear, a small hole near the rear left shoulder, some other small marks, holes, etc, but am absolutely original and authentic plush, Iconic doll of the 1970\'s......but there\'s much more to the brand story than that........

The Minnesota Valley Canning Company was founded in 1903 in Le Sueur, Minnesota. It used the brand name \"Le Sueur Z\" for canned vegetables in 1903 \"Le Sueur\" by itself was first used in 1933.
The brand \"Green Giant Great Big Tender Peas\" was first used in 1925 and the figure of a giant was introduced 3 years later by Carly Stanek Bingum.

The brand was created in response to the discovery of a new variety of pea. They were oblong, wrinkled and for a pea, huge. Despite their size, they were tender, and had a special flavor and sweetness that couldn\'t be matched.
The company went to the brands for which it canned and found that none of them wanted to sell the new peas.
Minnesota Valley was the first to take a chance and decided to sell them under their own label and emphasize the size of the new found vege\'s naming them Green Giant.
The original mascot had very little in common with the familiar green figure of today, he was an ugly, mean looking caveman with a bear coat on.
A few years later the leafy green outfit was designed in Northwestern Minnesota, also changing the scary caveman into a Happy Giant with a Big smile which completely changed the face of the brand.
When they put the word Jolly in front of the Giant\'s name, a canned food advertising icon was born! The Jolly Green Giant made his first television appearances in the 1950\'s and \"Ho, ho, ho\" became the Giant\'s Slogan in the 60\'s.
Then in 1972 Green Giant introduced Jolly\'s young apprentice, Little Sprout which was said to be the representation of the general public and consumers.

In 1979 Green Giant merged with The Pillsbury Company which was then acquired by General Mills in 2001. Finally in 2015 General Mills sold the brand to B&G Foods for $765 million in cash (LITERALLY CASH IN A BRIEFCASE!!!) and B&G still own the company to this present day.

Hope the story was fun and educational for you to read. Please review pictures and ask me any questions you may have, sold exactly as pictured. Additional information and pictures are available upon request.
Thank you for your purchase and have a great day!
