MY RESEARCH INDICATED THAT IN 1902 THE TOTAL STRENGTH OF THE MARINE CORPS WAS 6,031 INCLUCING 191 OFFICERS. I COULD NOT FIND INFORMATION ON THE RANK OF GUNNERY SERGEANT THAT YEAR BUT THERE CANNOT HAVE BEEN VERY MANY.
