And, in so doing, he kept alive the Detroit Tigers dreams lor another storybook season like 1984, when they won their first nine games and 35 of their first 40 en route to the World Series champi-ohshipr Pittaro marked his major league debut with three hits in four at-bats Monday to lead the Tigers to a 5-4 comeback victory over the Cleveland Indians in the season opener for both clubs. \"This is the way good clubs are supposed to win,\" Manager Sparky Anderson said. Pittaro is a 23-year-old rookie who made the jump from the Class AA minor leagues to the starting third base job with the world champions. \"This helps our club,\" Anderson noted. \"See, we were all worried about Chris. Now, he\'s a man. They all know he can take it now. He did a tremendous thing for our ball-club.\" Pittaro had three singles, driving in a run to start Detroit\'s two-run eighth inning, and Jack Morris picked up the victory by combining with Willie Hernandez on a six-hit-ter. : ----- \"Hopefully, this says I can hit major league pitching,\" Pittaro said. \"This is just fantastic. But, one day does not a season make.\" Pittaro, who had never set foot on a major league field until he walked into Tiger Stadium for batting practice, said he really felt no pressure. \"I didn\'t expect to be here, for one thing,\" Pittaro said. \"Today, I really didn\'t have time to be nervous. There was too much going on. It wasn\'t until I came back into the clubhouse (after batting practice) to stretch out that I got a few butterflies.\" Anderson said he didn\'t worry about pressure getting to Pittaro, a University of North Carolina product who is the son of Sonny Pittaro, baseball coach at Rider College in -Trenton, N.J. . \"Pressure is good for him because now he\'s one of us,\" Anderson said. \"We live with pressure all the time. Let him live with it, too.\" The Tigers trailed 4-3 in the eighth when Larry Herndon singled off Tom Waddell. Ernie Camacho, 0-1, came on for the Indians and walked Chet Lemon. Pittaro hit his third single of the game, scoring Herndon and sending Lemon to third. Lemon scored the winning run on a sacrifice fly by Lou Whi-. taker: Morris, 1-0, was erratic, walking si\" while striking out six. He gave up four runs on six hits in the eight innings he worked. Hernandez, the 1984 Cy Young winner and Most Valuable Player in the American League, worked a hitless ninth inning for his first save. The Indians trailed 3-1 when Julio Franco started a three-run sixth with an infield single. Franco went to third on a single by Joe Carter and scored on Pat Tabler\'s double into the left-field corner. Carter scored on a sacrifice fly by Brook Jacoby to tie it 3-3. Tabler went to third on a wild pitch by Morris and scored the go-ahead run on a single by George Vukovich. The Indians got to Morris for a run in the first when Franco doubled and scored on Mel Hall\'s single. The Tigers tied it 1-1 in the fourth on a run-scoring single by Darrell Evans and they pulled ahead 3-1 in the fifth on Lance Parnsh\'s two1 run single up the middle.
