AN ORIGINAL RARE SIGNED LETTER BY THE CELEBRATED ASTRONOMER, DR. CARL SAGAN (1934-1996)WITH ORIGINAL MAILING ENVELOP STAMPED & POSTMARKEDWRITTEN BY DR. SAGAN TO A JOURNALIST FOR USA TODAY on April 9, 1987. On Dr. Sagan's letterhead for Cornell University, Center for Radiophysics and Space Research, Space Sciences Building, Ithaca, New York 14853-6801. Watermarked paper with Seal of Cornell University. Boldly signed with a felt tip black pen by Carl Sagan. The original mailing envelop, postmarked April 15, 1987, with stamp is included. People usually do not save the envelop, so this makes it nicer to have the original envelop.
At the time of receiving this letter, I was conducting interviews with notable people for USA TODAY, having recently published interviews for them with Dr. Christiaan Barnard, Dr. Denton Cooley, Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Gerald Ford, Simon Wiesenthal, and others. At the same time, I was working on a book on success. Dr. Sagan's letter refers to my success book, and he makes reference to a possible interview for USA TODAY that we discussed before.
This letter has good content, and is in great condition, having been stored in a protective archival Avery sleeve. It is actually more difficult to find signed letters by Dr. Sagan. It is much easier to find signed photos or books by him as shown on .
Dr. Sagan thought it was interesting that I live in Roselle, New Jersey, which is very close to Rahway, New Jersey because he went to Rahway High School. He was actually born in New York, but Sagan moved to New Jersey because of his father's employment.
