I purchased this cart based on good reviews by some of the audio forums referring to it as a giant killer. Installed this cart on a VPI Classic arm wand that I had just removed a Dynavector DRT XV1s to send to Sound smith for a suspension issue and installed that on a VPI Prime with peripheral ring, SDS, BDR clamp or Stillpoints record clamp, Symposium feet inserts sitting on a Symposium ISO platform sitting on a Arcci Lead Balloon and run through an A!!nic H1500SE II phono stage. Set up was easy enough using a Mint protractor VTA was set at level and tracking set at 1.96g and azimuth dialed in. Liked the cart as soon as I dropped it into the groove and showed no bad habits, only negative I can say is that the cart seemed to add a little husk to Nora Jones and Corrine Bailey Rays voice although that is getting better. Seems to do well on all types of music but this thing with 18 hours on it loves jazz and would keep it in play just for that reason alone. Will continue to break this cart in on the Classic arm and once broken in will remove my ZYX Universe from my 3D arm and install the ART9 on it before forming my final opinion. So far just under 20 hours logged, is it a giant killer, probably not but a darn good cart at a very very reasonable price.Read full review

Incredible sounding cartridge. It took me a while to dial in perfectly though once I did wow. What a sound. Very open and natural with plenty of bass and treble extension with an incredibly wide and deep sound stage which even betters my FGS retipped Philips GP922 and Fidelity Research FR-1 Mk3F, with one big advantage being a slightly more forward midrange which better highlights vocals and lead instruments. All in all an exceptional cartridge for the price.

The ART9 performs spectacularly and sounds about as good as any cartridge I've ever heard, at a relatively low cost where hi-fi is concerned. Smooth and extended treble, plenty of well controlled bass and a lovely midrange makes for an extremely well balanced and competent rendition of whatever groove you let it play.

In audio, the little things always matter, and in the world of vinyl the cartridge is what actually touches the surface of the record, so picking the right one isn't always easy, especially if budget is a concern. I've used other Audio Technica cartridges before, such as the AT33EV and the AT33PTG (first version). Both are outstanding performers in their price range, but if you can afford the ART-9 I would recommend it in a heartbeat. It has the tonal balance and tracking of the others but offers a more refined presentation while still getting things like the cymbals and other small percussives with uncanny accuracy, all the while still being sublime and delicious.

Now I know what the high end carts sound like! The air, delicacy, weight behind the notes, truthful tone, its all there! This ART9 exceeded all my expectations. And 2juki was a dream to deal with!!
