The Kenwood tr-7950 is a great transceiver. The one that I got had an issue in the display, making it a problem to operate the unit. I found the problem was a solder bridge on the back of the display printed circuit board. By removing the solder bridge it made the display function properly. Thus making the unit programmable and has been working ever since. KI7BNL

If you want a simplex radio, they are great. But new they had no Sub Tones because back then most repeaters did not require one and it was an option, a TU-79 if needed. So few were made and bought and those are impossible to find anywhere. There is only one company that makes an equivalent and for the price of it alone, you can pick up a used ICOM 2300 at a Ham Feast. And if you installed one, that only gives you just 3 fixed tones to select from per channel and across all channels, no good in today's metropolitan areas ... I own three 7950s but the ICOMs I have bought work far better as a solution with full range programmable Sub Tones per channel standard... Cheers, N4PUM

I like this radio so much I have 2 of them...They have plenty of power when you need it and easy to operate..They may be older models but the ease of operation is what is appealing..The display is easy to see and read and changing channels is a breeze..I would recommend the Kenwood TR 7950 to anyone wanting a good radio with clean audio on both transmit and receive..Get yourself one and have fun on 2 meters for a 50 mile range with the 50 watts of output no problem when mobile and at home on a good antenna be one of the big boys..Enjoy and 73 de KC4TT
So this is a rig that's about 30 years old. It worked well for someone else for many years prior to arriving in my shack, and it obviously had many miles on it. I plugged it into a nearly equally old MFJ-1276, fired it up, set the frequency, and it's now running my packet station. You can't get better than a radio that simply works.
This 2m compact radio transceiver is one of my favorite. Good sound quality on rx and tx. Very nice looking display with the green light. Very recommended for an old radio transceiver. Rigradio Dotnet.
