The Eico 720 transmitter was offered as a kit back in the early 60's. It is of simple design with good quality parts comprising its construction. The design is fairly simple making it easy to assemble by someone of limited experience. The 720 in it's basic configuration is a crystal controlled CW transmitter that covers the 80 through 10 meter Amateur Bands. When paired up with the Eico 730 Modulator, it is capable of operating in the AM voice modulation mode. When also paired with a external VFO, it becomes frequency agile and capable of covering the full range of the 80 though 10 meter bands. This transmitter was fairly popular in the 60's having been the first transmitter of a fledgling ham just getting started. They would start out with the basic transmitter running CW on the Novice portions of the bands. After upgrading to a General class license, they could add the modulator and the VFO they would have a capable transmitter capable of running both CW and AM modes. For a Ham who is older like myself and grew up in the era of such equipment; obtaining one of these is a nostalgic throw back to their youth. Having grown up in the Tube equipment era, I find it very relaxing to work on such equipment. The documentation is readily available and the circuits are simple enough to easily troubleshoot and be maintained. The parts for the most part are generic and easily found. I find more and more older Hams like myself setting up vintage stations and getting back on CW and AM as a blast to the past. For someone who enjoys modifying equipment for better performance, older gear such as this affords one a inexpensive way to enjoy their experimentingRead full review

The Eico 720 was a very early 1960 Novice transmitter. It was my first transmitter, and I still use it today. Very easy to load up, You can use either a crystal or VFO. it can get a little chirpy as it gets older. it can be used with the Eico 730 modulator. When using this modulator, it has excellent quality AM, This rig does excellent from 80 to 10 meters in either am or cw. My only suggestion, would to put a relay that is "toggle" switchable to put the transmitter into transmit and standby. The rotating switch (function switch), tends to wear itself out from all the sliding from transmit to standby and vise versa. This causes wear on the switch. . . and the switch is hard to come by. Buy one, only if you like CW and/or AM. But remember that the modulator (730) that goes with this unit for AM, will likely cost more than this radio!! They are extremely easy to fix,Read full review

I built one of these transmitters many years ago as a young ham and wanted to add it to my nostalgia equipment. The transmitter was operational and in fairly good conditional considering the years which have passed since it was new. I am happy to add it to my equipment of another era.
