    Buy this book!

I feel strongly that this product rating was created for people buying a toaster or a couch...It's Johnny the Homicidal Maniac, written by Jhonen Vasquez, the same awesome person who created the heart warming cartoon, Invader Zim. I discovered this 15 years ago, in high school. It's about a young deer's adventure in the forest- , oh wait no, that's Bambi. This actually has nothing to do with deer. Its about a homicidal maniac named Nny, ...aaand HIS bloody adventures as he deals with inner turmoil and other dark topics. Jhonen jokes about not having a plot, but there was one I could follow. I won't give it away, but he talks about Nny repainting his wall with fresh blood a lot. I love the art style of this creative man. If you're into dark humor, Invader Zim, and Beetlejuice, ...

  • Intelligent and Gory

If you know Johnny, and don't like him, you probably just haven't paid enough attention. Witty and intelligent comic, highly recommended. One thing about this collection: It doesn't collect all 7 issues of the series, only the Johnny-stories. In my opinion the tales of Johnny benefit from the "breathing space" that comes from the other stories and characters that appeared in the pages of the series (and vice versa) The other stories do appear in the "Squee"-collection (which you also have to buy, in order to live a happy and fulfilled life!), but I would have preferred a "complete JTHM-series" vol 1 & 2 instead of this splitting up. Oh well, a matter of taste... And it's still great reading. Every home should have at least two...

  • Weird?

So this was recommended to me, when I mentioned how much I enjoy the Invader Zim comic, since it's by the same artist. It's, well it's weird. The beginning is mostly pointless cartoony gore/violence for shock value I guess. About halfway through, it seems the artist stumbled upon a plot, and things start getting interesting. I was into it by the end, but I'm not sure I see what people see in it. I suppose my only real complaint is that the text is difficult to read. I think I may have enjoyed it more of I hadn't spent so long trying to decipher the text.

  • One of My Absolute Favorites

Classic Jhonen. I’ve always loved this series. I love the dark humor and unconventional subject matter. Definitely recommend.

  • A wonderful dark humored romp...

I am a fan of Jhonen's various works. I had a volume of JtHM stashed away, but I wanted to read the earlier installments in the series, and branch out into his other various pieces of works. I loved JtHM: Director's Cute from the very minute I pried it from it's packaging! Sure, it's a bit gruesome at times, but it begins to grow on you in a deranged, manic and cuddly, warm, fuzzy insanity feeling sort of way. A wonderful collection of all the volumes of the beloved series, it's nicely combined with the early works and sketch notes from Jhonen Vasquez himself (it's fascinating to see how the character, Johnny, actually started out as). Not for the faint of heart, but it's perfect for the curious, or the already firm fans of Jhonen's works! Truly ...
