I️ bought an MB 250 Epiphone Gibson Banjo just a few weeks ago. After I️ took it down for a through cleaning, tightening and set up which included new strings, bridge and hooks. This is an amazing banjo. It is wide open with a wonderful rich sound and resonance that rings for a week. It is exceptionally well made and yes I️ was surprised at it’s heft but after two weeks of playing it seems less heavy. Strap is a plus! I️ truly feel as though I️ got a better than anticipated quality banjo. For anyone who wants a great banjo that is strong and rich in sound...for the price this is one that delivers!

I own one of these, and after having a $1,000+ Gold Tone for years, and having gone through two Deering Goodtime 2's, and also having just come from a trip to Deering's factory in San Diego, I thought this Epiphone would be unimpressive. However, I was quite pleasantly surprised. The Epiphone has a lot of kick, the high notes are clear and resonant, and the intonation on the neck is pretty accurate. It is nice and loud, and looks really sharp as well. No, it doesn't say Gibson or Deering on the headstock, but until I have $3,000+ to spend on the Deering I want, the Epiphone MB250 is plenty good. If I ever do get a professional banjo, I'll hang on to this one because it just sounds great, and will always have a place in my stable. Again, I couldn't be more surprised and more pleased with the MB250.Read full review

The only bad thing is this banjo is heavy. It is a great banjo with good volume and nice ring. Can't go wrong even at $600.00. Look at the Gibson Mastertone and this Masterbuilt, some are spelled Masterbilt. Very little difference.
