This radio surprised me it was easy to program my signal reports seem to be excellent and the only thing that is a little funky are the knobs they could use a little firmer touch. Are there other than that it was easy to install and unlike my ft 7800 I don't need to be on high power to make a good connection with the repeater. I totally recommend this radio if you can get it at a good price.

Being new with this type of radio I was worried it would be hard to program without the computer. That turned out to be completely wrong! It took a few tries but I was up and programming in minutes with success. Very easy to program, the radio is durable and strong. Speaker has good sound and its full featured. However, I must say that I am not fond of the speaker cord, its like a landline telephone cord, mine is getting frayed and I have had to order a replacement. That aside, the radio works great and should serve your amateur radio needs very well for analog use.

I have to admit that I'm a Yaesu fan, but this is a great radio regardless of that fact. For a 2 meter transceiver that is out of production and replaced by an updated model and a radio designed for a single band mobile use, this radio is one of the best. It has a lot of desirable features and since they are out of production you can get some pretty good deals on old stock and used radios. As with all used deices though, buyer beware.
I have 3 of the Yaesu FT-2800m and they are great radios... wouldn't mind a dual or quad band radio sometime in the future.

I run a LARGE Packet radio network. I have purchased over 40 of these for my network. They are placed in harms way 24/7 in the lightning capital of Florida. These units are great! They are designed for long haul simplex operation. The receiver is very sensitive, and matches the reach of the powerful 65 watt transmitter. They are built to mil specs. and in 3+ years of operation, not one has failed. Ever! This is a solid radio.
