We must go deeper, further down into standard D! Since the inception of the guitar, guitarists have always tried to push the boundaries of what was possible on the instrument. More recently the trend is guitarists are desiring to get a deeper more resonant sound out of their guitars. Being a metal guitar player as well as a fingerstyle acoustic player I fell in love with this instrument right away. The extra long neck gives you the feeling you have new sonic possibilities on the guitar to explore. A whole new set of alternate tuning and licks are at your finger tips that would be previously impossible on your regular six string without it fretting out. The classic ovation body gives it that tone that you love in ovation acoustics along. Plug it in and this baby sings like a giant! Fi fi fo fum! I smell a new guitar in your home!Read full review
Love playing this guitar. The long neck is great, and tuning in D with proper string pull is a pleasure. However, I have always tuned in D with a standard scale, and used heavy,(14 - 59), strings to get proper tension. The light strings that come originally, feel way to small, especially on a big guitar like this. So, I switched to mediums and loved it. Unfortunately, extra pull started tilting the big, wide, plastic saddle forward, causing fret buzz. I took it to a luthier to get a new saddle, only to find out the pickup is inside the saddle! His solution was to install a new piezo pickup and a CNC milled bone saddle on top,(pictures attached). Results are spectacular! I have a Takamine pro series 4 dreadnaught that I haven’t taken out of the case in months. One note, the EQ pre-set was made for the plastic saddle. The bone saddle is much brighter sounding, so the pre-set levels don’t work. Turn is off, and control with the EQ.... bass boosted and treble cut a little. Unplugged, it just sings!Read full review
