LOTS of CHARACTER! if it could only talk!aka USMC KaBar, USMC KA-BAR, USMC KABAR type-IKNIFE SPECS:
-Pacific theater field modified KA-BAR KNIFE & SCABBARD-early standard USMC Depot Issued
-one side ricasso has \'USMC\' opposite has \'OLEANS, NY\', early type-I
see COLE page 87 (below)-handle was shortened to \'fist\' size and re-peened.....see images
-worn & darkened leather washer handle....BUT TIGHT & SOLID....
note the thread cord wound around washer base at crossguard to cinch it tight.
washer surface has scratches, abrasion, scrapes....see image
-early type-I FAT pommel cap WITHOUT stake pin-blade heavily used...worn and sharpened. age spotting, metal abrasions, ...can\'t
tell if kill notches upper mid-way on blade top edge. regardless....probably looped
off a few jap ears....or knocked out some gold teeth.SCABBARD:
-scabbard marked BOYT -43-
missing handle strap...but wide belt loop....probably how it was worn
-upper part nicely slabbed with wooden ammo crate wood....once painted
black
-rivet reinforcement done at the leather strap throat (3 rivets).
-backside was kept as leather scabbard...see image
-blade slips in, fits PERFECTLY insideNOTE: extreme tropical jungle climate and the wet damp muck literally disintegrated leather
products....no doubt the leather scabbard was getting eaten away
this USMC piece has incredible character! if it could only talk!-CONDITION used.....as described....i have provided BOTH flat bed scan and digital camera
