Being offered on this sale is Art Deco figurine made by Wiener Kunst Keramik, Austria. It features bust of Madonna nursing her baby. She is shown with large halo above her head. Madonna’s face is in light cream with pale pink and light brown details. Her hair is in dark brown. She is wearing blue robe over yellow dress. Halo is white with yellow. Baby’s skin is of natural color. His hair is light brown. Figurine is fully glazed. Looks splendid. One of the most significant and famous Austrian ceramist and sculptor Rudolf Podany (1876 – 1963) designed this piece. He designed numerous figurines, wall plaques and wall masks in the 1930s. He was a partner in Wiener Kunst Keramik as well as in Wiener Porzelanmanufaktur as well as worked as a freelance for Goldscheider. This Madonna is one of his series of Madonna in Blue. The backside carries black ‘Wien Keramos’ shield logo and ‘Made In Austria’ as well as incised model number 998 with numbers 44 and 2 below it. According to my books this is production of late 1930s. It is known about ‘Wien Keramos’ that they often marked their figurines with original artist signs. Unfortunately we do not see it on this figure.
