This is a curbside (advertised as a 1/24 model but AMT did things in 1/25 scale) of a real 1-of-1 race car commissioned by John Mecom and named after King Hussein of the middle eastern country Jordan, who was an automobile enthusiast. The real Hussein I race car ran a handful of races, was driven by A.J. Foyt (see reference pic), and was replaced by the famous Mecom Lola T70 Zerex Special not long after it was built.
Some say this is the most beautiful road race car ever made. I agree.

It first ran with a Weber-carbureted Chrysler 426 Race Hemi and due to fuel supply problems the induction setup was quickly changed to 2x4Bbl carbs. The kit air cleaner is correct for the 2x4 version.

See it briefly run HERE with incorrect wheels and incorrectly colored air cleaner & roll bar.

This kit was produced in 1966 in a series of 4 different Can Am models with conventional AND Slot-Car interiors just before AMT went to fully shrinkwrapped boxes. Since these boxes were never shrinkwrapped, most have MUCH more surface wear than you see here. I found this kit pictured in an old magazine ad for AMT products and the 1966 1/25th Annuals were listed in the same ad.

It took 3 examples of this model to put together the near-mint example you see here. The solid white styrene pieces all came from one example and match in their very slightly off-white color. The box & extra-nice but somewhat yellowed decal came from example 2 and the clear & plated parts came from example 3. I\'m going to build the leftovers with chassis parts from the MPC Howmet Can Am car.

The example in this listing is collector-grade and is the best one I have ever seen listed on . Decal is 53 yeas old. It\'s probably usable with a few fresh coats of clear spray lacquer to keep it from crumbling in the water. Otherwise, search \'AMT Hussein Decal\' to find a seller who offers reproductions. The repro decal Seller told me he would print the decals either with no number or with the correct 23 or 1 numbers that this car actually ran with.
