Vintage JAPANESE SUMIDA GAWA Meoto Yunomi SIGNED CUP SET WOOD BOX Carved Crabs For Sale

Offered is a vintage JAPANESE SUMIDA GAWA LIDDED MEOTO YUNOMI SET in its original wood box with hand-brushed Kanji characters on the lid. I think this set hails from circa 1980\'s - 1990\'s. The set is in perfect condition and looks unused. A meoto yunomi set is traditional in Japan, with the husband\'s cup being slightly larger than the wife\'s cup. This amazing hand wheel-thrown set would be perfect to use with seafood, because the side of each cup is carved with a crab emerging from a sea-rock crevice. Otherwise the thick cream-colored glaze on the cups and lids has an intentional crackled surface, and there is a deep red mat glaze in the crevices and on the base. The crabs have blue eyes, with red, yellow and dark green bodies. The clay underneath appears to be a buff color.

Each cup is SIGNED by the artist with impressed kanji characters inside a circle next to the foot ring (see photos). Sorry I can\'t read that maker\'s mark, but with a little translation help with the included printed material, I think I can say this set is from Matsuyama in the Shikoku District of Japan.

The man\'s cup measures 3\" high (3 3/4\" high including lid). The woman\'s cup measures 2 3/4\" high (3 3/8\" high including lid). The box measures 8\" long x 5\" deep x 4 1/2\" high. Everything is in excellent old condition with no issues at all. Fantastic, unusual and whimsical, but absolutely beautifully ask questions before offerding because sales are final unless the item is not as described. Returns will be accepted if I have made a grave error in my description, and if the item is returned to me in the same condition as when sent to you. I do not accept other types of returns.
