VINTAGE FIREMAN Cairns & Brother INC.CLIFTON, NJ. BLACK LEATHER HELMET FDNY \"53\" For Sale

A rare find indeed! Black Leather Fireman\'s Helmet with original black leather badge.
I contacted the Firemen\'s Museum of NY City. I described the Helmet to them, they dated its usage between 1940\'s - 1960\'s.
Engine 53 was located at 104th St. between Lexington and 3RD. Inside the Helmet I found an old newspaper that was tucked up under the inside liner and was most likely used as a band. It was from the New York Mirror dated March 3rd, 1961.
There is quite a bit of information on the internet concerning FDNY Engine 53, please check it out. It is quite interesting.
There is the Cairns Brother Inc Clifton NJ Label affixed to the helmet. I see a white tag that has faded, but I can see a partial name and address.There is also a Black Cairns Brother Label affixed to the pull down inside liner. It does have leather (suede) pull down ear guards. Both the liner and ear guards look to be in good condition.
The leather itself is dusty, has cracks and some areas where the leather has worn. I do not know the size. I have not attempted to clean this Helmet at all, and am selling it as I found it.
Even though there is wear to the leather and the leather badge it is a remarkable piece of Americana. Please feelfree to ask questions or request more photos.
