Vintage Cast Iron US Mail Mailbox, BridgePort Castings from Conn:
This is an exceptional rare find. It is a
genuine original U.S. Post office letter mailbox. It was manufactured by
Bridgeport Castings, Bridgeport. Connecticut.
In 1963 when zip
codes were introduced the common brown letterboxes were repainted red,
white and blue. Those colors were used to identify and promote the use
of Zip codes. Most of the small post mounted mailboxes were destroyed.
Few of them survived. The letter slot works fine. This looks to be all original, with original paint. No keys come with this mail box, The mount on back looks to have been cracked off, but has not damaged the actual mail box in any way. The Hours of operations tag is still barley legible. This is truly in wonderful condition. 13x20x8.25 it must weigh 50lbs

The bottom of this Mail box is also in good condition, with minimal rust, and is stamped 1948.
