Vintage Alhambra Regal Dobro 14 Metal body guitar 1930\'s Fiddle Edge:

Why would I evenhave this guitar I ask myself. 15 or so years ago when I was building a newhouse, I wanted something to (decorate) a corner in my office. Owning a guitarstore and having touched (no BS) thousands of instruments, it had to besomething cool. I chose this guitar (back then) for a couple of reasons.First and foremost was that I could not find out a damn thing about it. (Thiswas pre or very early Internet times) I knew it stunk of Dobro and National. Iknew it was a quality build, and I knew it was late 30\'s early 40\'s by the neckshape and the hardware. My experience and instinct told me these things andmore. I was intrigued by the rolled metal on the F holes, the Fiddle Edge body, and the basket. I justhad to have it. The only reason you are seeing it now is that I haveaccumulated way too much in 30 years in the music business. I have only everseen one other example of this instrument. This was made in the mid 30\'s anddepending on who you ask you will be told they were made by Regal, or Dobro. If you look at a Dobro Leader 14 , or a RegalM-14, this guitar is identical down to the etching pattern. The only differenceI can spot is the headstock. It was very common back then to produce theseInstruments with various names. The best source that I can find states thatthese were made under license from National-Dobro by Regal of Chicago, fromabout 1935 to 1941 The Alhambra headstock seems to be very scarce to find comparablesor much information.

It would be supercool to get it in the right hands and being played again. It is original downto the last piece. I am not overly experienced with Dobro\'s and Nickel platingso I am not going to try and clean it etc. The overall condition is very good.It will need to get into the hands of a pro. The machine heads needed a drop ofoil each. It does tune up to pitch but the machines are old and sloppy. Theneck is solid and straight. There is minimal fret-wear. There is an abilone dotmissing on the 19th fret. I would guess that it was played very little becausethere is almost no paint wear on the neck, just a little at the thumb position. There is a small crack a little over an inch long on the back of the headstock. It is obviously ancient and presents no structure issue at all. There is onesmall dent in the body near the treble side F-Hole. I have photos of thesethings so you can see. The only other thing is this. There are two screws missingthat hold the resonator plate on. There are a couple of others that just spinwhen they are tightened. These are very small sheet metal screws and I suspectthat this is common in the Dobro world and most likely are replaced with thenext size up. Everything I\'m describing should be familiar and easy for a Dobroperson. I don\'t want to be negative, I just want you to know exactly what ishere. overall, it tunes right up and is fun. The action is higher than a modernguitar but only at the bridge end. It appears to be adjustable but I\'m notgonna mess with anything so that the right people can set this guitar up. Itdoes play now but it groans and rattles like an old model T. I guess that\'sabout it. I don\'t know if I can find a snug fitting case for this guitar? Itwill ship in a Hard case and be properly packed and insured. I can only ship tothe lower 48 states. Thanks for looking.
