Hello and welcome to The House of Chrome.
You are looking at a nice early Astatic T-3 crystal microphone manufactured by The Astatic Corporation during the 1940\'s or 50\'s with riveted Astatic label. As you can see in pic # 2 the T-3 is listed among other Astatic microphones in my 1945 microphone catalog and has basic spec info on the mic.
Don\'t be fooled by other sellers on . If the Astatic badge is glued on then it\'s 1960\'s era and newer. If the Astatic badge is riveted on...then it\'s 1940\'s to 1950\'s era. Buyers beware of those peddling these as 1940\'s era when the badge is clearly glued on.
As you can see in the pictures provided this T-3 micis in original condition and has very lite wear and you have to be inches away to even see. The chrome finish glows like few I\'ve seen and even the mesh screen is very nice with one small spot of tarnish. The Astatic label looks almost brand new and all 3 original screws holding the grill in place are still present..
The original crystal element no longer works so it should be used for display or repair purposes only until fixed. These elements can be easily replaced as I have done quite a few conversions myself. The threads for the stand are in perfect condition. You\'ll notice this mic comes with the original Astatic \"G\" on / off desk stand. The chrome on the stand is just as nice as the mic but the original paint does show slight wear in the form of scratches and chips and the original \"push to talk\" handle is missing. The cable is only 5 inches long but free of any physical damage and still soft and pliable. Comes with the chunky original Switchcraft 1/4 inch connector as well. The stand has the riveted label as well and quite legible. You\'ll notice the felt liner on the base is well worn but still does it\'s job nicely. There\'s a hole on the bottom of the base as well.
Again, I would stress that this is a non-working display piece to show off anywhere in the home, office or studio.
I would rate the true cosmetic condition of the mic an 8 on a scale of 1- 10.
