VERY FINE ANTIQUE DUCK DECOY, SUSQUEHANNA FLATS. OLD WORKING DECOY:
$168.50

I am disposing of an old collection of antique and primitive items including several duck decoys. Most of my items came from sales and estate sales in the South or from my private collection, all acquired over a span of 50 years. Similar items will sometimes be grouped together. Please examine my photographs carefully as they constitute part of the description. Please excuse glare and shadows on photos. Feel free to ask questions as there are no returns unless I have misrepresented and item. No international shipping.Shipping and handling costs are my best estimate for cost of supplies and actual shipping to any point in United States. My schedule will not allow pick-up of your purchases- no exception to this.I accept PayPal only as per rules.

This hunting decoy, rigged for hunting, was purchased at the Easton waterfowl festival in about 1978, along with several others, and has been in my collection since. I am sure that an expert in eastern decoys will recognize the maker. It seems to be all original without repairs or paint touch-up, etc. Very sound and solid showing only honest use hunting; haslead weight and staple and ring anchor tie. Has definite evidence of use, including a few shot marks. Has the usual and expected slight wear from this use, painted eyes ,and no significant damage that I can see. I do not think this a M. Mitchell bird but one of his contemporaries. It seems to be a little wider/flatter that most Mitchells I have seen. Is is definitely not one of the later Chesapeake style birds which are flooding the market. I would appreciate it if someone would identify the maker for me.

Note: A knowedgable collector informed me that this was a Paul Gibson decoy, Havre de Grace area; Gibson was self-taught, started making his own decoys at age 13and made many fewer than Madison Mitchell, etc.
