VINTAGE CATCHER'S MASK 1900'S LOOPS AND CLIPS UMPIRES MASK-MOVABLE EAR GUARDS For Sale

This is one of the hardest masks to find. It is an umpire's mask from the early 20th century with ear guards that swing back and forth on the cage. Theseguards are exceptional large if you've seen other similar masks. The cage itself is in very good condition with a slight off center look from the front. Overall, the cage and the guards look to have no damage or breaks. The chin guard may have been pushed upward a little because of it digging into the umpire's chest; I've seen this done on other masks. There is no manufacturer or markings of any kind and the harness, though connected on one side is damaged. The unfortunate thing is the condition of the leather padding which I've taken photos of from as many angles as possible. What was of interest to me was seeing the colored woolen wrapping used as padding. I've not seen that before. The remaining leather is not brittle but it is so old that a smallpiece might fall off when the mask is handled. When I first saw thecondition of the padding, I was not thrilled but the moreI looked at it, the more appealing it became and the fact it was on this unique mask. Had ithappened toa regular mask, it would greatly affect its appeal but on thisrare mask, it makes it more interesting if you are intoreally seeinghow these old relics of the game aremade.
