2nd Production Model and 1st Accepted by US Military During WWII. More Detail Than 1st Production Model that was Rejected by US NavyIn Original Box with water damage and Missing End Piece Early comet models were provided in individual tan colored cardboard boxes which were marked as being 1 inch to 110 feet (1:1320) in scale.
In many of the early comet models one can see the lineage in Jane\'s Fighting Ships - 1942. Their first models appear to be taken from the drawings and not precise but rough representations.Because of this, the first shipment of these models were received by the Navy and rejected. The models were returned to Comet. Rather than destroying the molds, Comet saved them and used them post-war for production of models sold commerically to the public. However, many other models listed as 1 inch 100 feet created by Comet were accepted by the Governement and were shipped individually boxed to various Air Force training commands as required. These models however, were never usde in the later wooden-box carrying cases.The listed model is a rare example of an early comet casting with original box if shown or as described
