1945 Original SHAEF WWII
US Army Allied Expeditionary Force
Victory/Farewell Letter/Leaflet
To Troops
From General Eisenhower
Great original letter/leaflet delivered to all WWII troops AFTER the Allied victory over Germany in 1945. Own a rare piece of history since although tens of thousands of these were distributed, relatively few of these survived.
These often are folded, soiled, & torn due to them being carried by invasion troops. The more worn & folded...it speaks volumes in its being handled, read, used, or carried—very poignant.
The victory farewell (relinquish combined command) letter/leaflet was distributed AFTER victory in Europe was declared. If only it could talk!
These farewell letters were sent from General Dwight D. Eisenhower to all members of the Allied Expeditionary Force thanking them for their service in the D-Day Normandy Invasion and Normandy Spearhead Drive through France. This is an original WWII printed document and is not a photocopy or reproduction.
Item - Original SHAEF single-sided printed document from 1945; measures approximately 6” x 9” (approx. 15cm x 23cm).
Condition - This Victory/Farewell declaration leaflet exhibits overall wear with wrinkles, folds, edges curled & bent, stains/marks, small tears around a few spots on the edges, and pin holes near top where it may have been posted in a locker or common area overseas (please see photos for best description).
