Tony Conigliaro Game Used HOME RUN Baseball 6/10/65 Career HR #36 RedSox Legend.
Here's the story. I acquired this from a gentleman who's uncle worked for the Boston Red Sox. One of his duties was to retrieve any homeruns that were hit into the net, over the green monster.
On June 10th, 1965, Tony Conigliaro smacked this ball deep into the net of left field off of White Sox pitcher Gary Peters.
That would be the only homerun to be hit that game.
So, as he always did, he would mark the name and the date on every baseball that he collected. I was told that he kept the RedSox balls, sold the visitor balls, and threw away the Yankees balls.
Although now faint, you can still clearly make out, "Tony C.". Followed by 6-10-65. The ball itself has a fuzzy feel now to it. You can still make out the American League-Joe Cronin sweet spot stamping, as well as the manufacturer stamp. One stain as well on one panel.
I've had this in my personal collection for many years. I feel its time to let it go. You can't take it with you, right? I really hope that this ends up in the hands of another RedSox fan, or at least a fan of the history of the game.
Thank you for taking the time to read this. Go Sox!
